University of Northampton memiliki sejarah yang cukup panjang dan pernah mengalami banyak pergantian nama, mulai dari berdirinya Northampton Technical College pada tahun 1924, kemudian terbentuk Northampton’s colleges of art, technology, and education, hingga terbentuk Nene College Higher Education pada 1975 yang berubah menjadi University College Northampton pada 1999, lalu berubah lagi menjadi The University of Northampton pada 2005.
Berlokasi di Northampton, England, University of Northampton sejak tahun 2018 telah membuka Waterslide campus. Northampton sendiri berjarak hanya 1 jam dari London dan Birmingham. Northampton juga tidak jauh dari Luton, Milton Keynes dan Leicester. Selain itu kota ini juga dikelilingi oleh 5 bandara internasional.
